One can’t talk about middle school theatre without mentioning TONY-nominated Willie Wilson! And thank goodness because under Willie’s early instruction and training, many TAG alumni have gone on to receive multiple METRO, FOXY and PAPERMILL awards after which they pursue theatre education in prestigious universities - many with scholarships!

In addition, TAG alumni become their high school musical’s leading roles. And although Willie will always remember them as either plucky or shy 8-year-olds, he’s even more impressed by how they’ve fallen in love with the art of theatre and shining their light. Check out ALUMNI NEWS below.

TAG’s mission is more than just words. “Leading with love and kindness” is who we are. Everyday.

TAG’s mission is to lead with love and kindness to provide a safe and brave space for theater kids.

Willie Wilson's love for musical theater and working with children inspired him to develop a children’s musical theatre program - Theatre Arts Group (TAG) program. TAG was born at the Westwood school district for the elementary and middle schools in 1999. The success of the program brought him recognition and support from the faculty, Board of Ed. and PTA. This led to an expansion of TAG to more school districts, spring and fall after-school programs, plus three summer musical theatre camps.

  • “The children in your program walk a little taller and are quicker to raise their hands in class.”

    – Principal Ray Gonzalez

  • “Dear Willie, Thank you for helping me in drama. You’ve made me want to sing louder than I want to. I’m not scared anymore of singing in front of strangers. Thanks alot!”

    – Margaret
